On Friday night, the Minnesota Wild seized a 2-1 lead against the Dallas Stars in their best-of-seven Stanley Cup playoff series. However, Ryan Suter in game 3 pitted against Wild supporters.
Suter signed a 13-year, $98 million contract with the Wild in July 2012; however, he was bought out in July 2021. Suter played for the Wild for nine seasons. A few weeks later, Suter signed with the Stars, and in the first two games of the series, he played the antagonist by hitting Wild star Kirill Kaprizov repeatedly with cross-checks.
For Wild supporters, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the 38-year-old even before the game began at the Truck Park in downtown St. Paul, going after Kaprizov, who has attained the same saviour-like reputation that Suter and Zach Parise acquired after signing with Minnesota, was sufficient.
Ryan Suter in game 3 Suter received a particularly nasty greeting from the crowd as soon as they entered the Xcel Energy Centre, singing along to the Stars’ cries of “Suter sucks!” and booing Suter whenever he touched the puck.
Throughout the entire game, the fans chanted “Suter sucks!” and cheered when Suter broke his stick while attempting a shot.
The Wild crowd’s fervour was cited by Wild coach Dean Evason as a key contributing element in the Wild’s triumph in Game 3.
The Wild’s supporters are passionate and devoted, as evidenced by the cry “Suter sucks” during Game 3 of the playoff series against the Stars. Although some might consider it insulting or uncalled for, it serves as a reminder of the strong emotional bond that fans have with their favourite players and teams.
More than ever, the Wild will need the backing of their supporters as they face the Dallas Stars in the second round of the playoffs, whether or not they are rooting for Ryan Suter. In terms of the actual game, the Wild prevailed 5-1.
